Qari Ziyad Patel was born in Ladysmith, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. The early years of school were played through various schools where he took many leadership roles and was key in starting many structures for students in certain schools in the region. During this period he was elected chairman of the Student Representative Council, also a member of the Youth sector of the School body and was an executive member of the African National League Youth Conference, Ladysmith region. Ziyad was also schooled at a Roman Catholic school in Ireland-Dublin.
He has traveled to many places and has been honored to recite the Qur'an at mosques in England, Ireland, Turkey, India, Kashmir, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Botswana, Indonesia, Cape Town and Alhamdulillah throughout South Africa. Ziyad leads a lifestyle that is very busy with constant local and international travel. Qari Ziyaad is also the guardian of AL-IMDAAD FOUNDATION and has also been on aid missions around the world.

Ziyad has released several albums from Nasheeds. He also worked for the International Islamic Channel where he and Qari Bashir Patel presented Qiraaha-Tus-Saheeha, a program to perfect the reading of the Holy Qur'an.
